Bossier High has a lot to commemorate this year. Not only is it the 100th year for Bearkat Football and Basketball, but the school is also celebrating becoming the latest Purple Star School in Bossier Parish and the state. 

The Bearkats received the state designation from Dr. Ernise Singleton, Assistant Superintendent of Career and College Readiness at the Louisiana Department of Education, who traveled to Bossier High to personally award the Purple Star School banner to Principal Dr. Billy Neill. Singleton is who designed and launched the state’s Purple Star School program. 

Meeting the criteria to be declared a Purple Star School is not easy, which is what makes it significant. Schools must meet a high standard when it comes to providing various support services and resources to military-connected children and their families. 

Making the distinction even more special was Bossier High was recognized as a Military Champion by the Bossier Chamber of Commerce and awarded $250. 

Bossier High is the 29th school in Bossier Parish to earn Purple Star School status, a strong show of support to the 3,200+ military-connected students and their families that the district serves.
